L'unica ed epica notte milanese dei Pixies

Il traguardo dei quarant’anni di carriera rappresenta per i Pixies  la conferma di una vitalità creativa che continua a scuotere le fondamenta del rock alternativo. La pioneristica band statunitense ha scelto di festeggiare questo epico anniversario con "Pixies 40", un tour mondiale che toccherà le location più prestigiose del pianeta,  inclusa una storica prima volta alla Royal Albert Hall di Londra, e che riserverà all'Italia un unico, imperdibile appuntamento estivo. Il teatro di questo evento sarà il Parco della Musica di Milano, dove la band salirà sul palco martedì 14 luglio per una serata organizzata da DNA concerti. Ad accendere l'atmosfera milanese prima del loro arrivo ci penserà il rock potente e distorto dei britannici The Pale White.

Nati a Boston nel 1986, Black Francis, Joey Santiago e David Lovering , oggi affiancati dalla bassista Emma Richardson , hanno letteralmente ridefinito i confini della musica indipendente. Fin dagli esordi nei club, i loro live si sono imposti come l'antitesi del glamour e delle convenzioni: nessuna concessione alle chiacchiere sul palco, ma un'esplosione di suono incessante e travolgente che ha tracciato una nuova via per il rock dal vivo. Non stupisce che questo nuovo viaggio celebrativo sia iniziato proprio nel Regno Unito, la terra che per prima accolse a braccia aperte la loro proposta sonora prima che il mondo intero ne venisse conquistato.

La traiettoria artistica dei Pixies è costellata di pietre miliari che hanno influenzato intere generazioni di musicisti. Fin dal debutto con Come On Pilgrim nel 1987, emerso dalle storiche registrazioni note come "The Purple Tapes", la band ha imposto una scrittura surreale e frammentata. Il successivo Surfer Rosa dimostrò l'assoluta unicità del loro sound, mentre il rivoluzionario Doolittle del 1989 spinse le melodie pop verso territori oscuri e affascinanti, catapultando il gruppo nella Top Ten britannica e consacrandolo, all'inizio degli anni Novanta, come l'icona imprescindibile dell'alt-rock fino allo scioglimento del 1993.

Il secondo atto della loro storia, iniziato con un'epocale reunion nel 2004 capace di registrare il tutto esaurito all'istante e di trionfare al Coachella, si sta dimostrando persino più prolifico del primo. Con ben cinque album acclamati dalla critica pubblicati dal 2014 a oggi, la band vive una maturità artistica affilata e potente. Il loro decimo e più recente lavoro in studio, The Night The Zombies Came, ha ribadito lo status di una formazione toccata da un genio straordinario, elettrizzante e ancora incredibilmente viva. A quarant'anni dalla fondazione, i Pixies continuano a guardare avanti, dimostrando che l'autorevolezza e l'innovazione non hanno data di scadenza.

The Pixies' Only and Epic Night in Milan: forty years of noise and genius

The milestone of a forty-year career represents for the Pixies not so much a moment of nostalgic celebration, but rather the confirmation of a creative vitality that continues to shake the foundations of alternative rock. The pioneering American band has chosen to celebrate this epic anniversary with "Pixies 40," a world tour that will visit the planet's most prestigious locations—including a historic first time at London's Royal Albert Hall—and will reserve a single, unmissable summer appointment for Italy. The venue for this event will be the Parco della Musica in Milan, where the band will take the stage on Tuesday, July 14th, for an evening organized by DNA Concerti. Fueling the Milanese atmosphere ahead of their arrival will be the powerful, distorted rock of British band The Pale White.

Born in Boston in 1986, Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering—now joined by bassist Emma Richardson—have literally redefined the boundaries of independent music. Ever since their early days in the clubs, their live shows have stood as the antithesis of glamour and convention: no concessions to on-stage small talk, but rather an incessant and overwhelming explosion of sound that blazed a new trail for live rock. It is no surprise that this new celebratory journey began precisely in the United Kingdom, the land that first welcomed their sonic proposal with open arms before the entire world was conquered.

The Pixies' artistic trajectory is studded with milestones that have influenced entire generations of musicians. Right from their 1987 debut with Come On Pilgrim, which emerged from the historic recordings known as "The Purple Tapes," the band imposed a surreal and fragmented songwriting style. The subsequent Surfer Rosa demonstrated the absolute uniqueness of their sound, while the revolutionary 1989 album Doolittle pushed pop melodies into dark and fascinating territories, catapulting the group into the British Top Ten and establishing them, by the early nineties, as the essential icon of alt-rock until their disbandment in 1993.

The second act of their history, which began with an epic 2004 reunion that sold out instantly and triumphed at Coachella, is proving to be even more prolific than the first. With five critically acclaimed albums released from 2014 to the present day, the band is experiencing an artistic maturity that is both sharp and powerful. Their tenth and most recent studio effort, The Night The Zombies Came, reaffirmed the status of a lineup touched by an extraordinary, thrilling, and still incredibly alive genius. Four decades after their formation, the Pixies continue to look forward, proving that authority and innovation have no expiration date.
