L’incontro tra la grande musica e la cultura del vino di altissimo pregio si rinnova anche quest’anno nelle terre senesi. Dal 20 al 26 luglio, prende il via la ventinovesima edizione di Jazz & Wine in Montalcino e promette un’esperienza multisensoriale che fonde sonorità internazionali, avanguardia espressiva e le più celebrate etichette vinicole del territorio.
Nato dalla storica e felice intuizione che unisce l'azienda vinicola Banfi, la famiglia Rubei del celebre Alexanderplatz di Roma e il Comune di Montalcino, questo appuntamento si attesta tra le rassegne estive più ricercate e in costante crescita di pubblico. La direzione artistica di Eugenio Rubei prosegue con fermezza e originalità il cammino tracciato dal padre Giampiero, disegnando un cartellone che attraversa l'energia travolgente del jazz elettrico, il lirismo contemporaneo, le sfumature della bossa nova e audaci progetti inediti creati appositamente per questa kermesse.
Castello Banfi ospita la prima parte della rassegna, inaugurando le serate di lunedì 20 luglio sotto il segno del mito. La Kenny Garrett Electric Band sale sul palco con il progetto “Tribute to Miles Davis”, offrendo un omaggio vibrante al leggendario trombettista dal quale Garrett, premiato con il titolo di NEA Jazz Master, ereditò direttamente i segreti del jazz elettrico durante la sua storica permanenza nella band tra il 1987 e il 1991.
Il viaggio sensoriale prosegue martedì 21 luglio con il ritorno di una figura che incarna l’essenza stessa del festival: Danilo Rea. Accompagnato dallo storico trio Doctor 3, che vede Enzo Pietropaoli al contrabbasso e Fabrizio Sferra alla batteria, il pianista romano, unico italiano presente nella prestigiosa Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz, porta in scena la straordinaria sensibilità e la sintonia di un sodalizio artistico che da quasi trent'anni raccoglie i massimi consensi della critica nazionale.
Le contaminazioni globali prendono vita mercoledì 22 luglio, sempre nello scenario di Castello Banfi, grazie a un incontro ad alto tasso di improvvisazione. Il batterista americano Hamid Drake, maestro nel combinare ritmiche afro-cubane, africane e indiane, si unisce ad Antonello Salis, pioniere e vulcanico solista del pianoforte e della fisarmonica. Accanto a loro, l'esperienza espressiva del sassofonista Stefano “Cocco” Cantini e la profonda vena emotiva del contrabbassista Rosario Bonaccorso completano un quartetto formidabile e imprevedibile.
Giovedì 23 luglio la rassegna sposta il proprio baricentro nel cuore pulsante del borgo, tra le mura della storica Fortezza di Montalcino. Il sassofonista Stefano Di Battista presenta il suo quintetto arricchito dalla presenza della special guest Paco Sery alla batteria, mettendo in scena il progetto “We Love Miles”, una raffinata rilettura del repertorio davisiano firmata da un musicista cresciuto alla scuola di icone come Michel Petrucciani e consacrato dalla storica etichetta Blue Note.
Le calde atmosfere sudamericane avvolgono la Fortezza venerdì 24 luglio, grazie alla presenza elegante di Rosalia de Souza e della sua Bossa Band. La cantante nativa di Rio de Janeiro, celebre per le sue passate collaborazioni con i padri fondatori del genere come Roberto Menescal, tocca Montalcino all'interno del suo tour italiano, regalando una serata di pura poesia sonora e ritmi sincopati di rara freschezza.
Un evento speciale e irripetibile caratterizza la serata di sabato 25 luglio, che vede protagonista Rita Marcotulli, la pianista italiana più premiata a livello internazionale. Alla guida del suo quartetto, la musicista accoglie sul palco il sassofonista britannico Andy Sheppard per un concerto originale ideato esclusivamente per il pubblico di Montalcino, rinnovando un legame artistico profondo e orientato alla ricerca del lirismo più puro e contemporaneo.
Il gran finale di domenica 26 luglio è affidato alla figura più carismatica del panorama jazzistico europeo: Enrico Rava. Il celebre trombettista presenta il progetto “The Fearless Five”, un quintetto audace che affianca alla straordinaria esperienza del leader le energie fresche e creative delle nuove generazioni del jazz italiano, siglando la chiusura di una settimana indimenticabile.
