Il battito del cinema indipendente torna a scuotere la Riviera Ligure, confermando Sestri Levante come l'epicentro di una narrazione visiva che rifiuta il banale. Dal 5 al 10 maggio 2026, il Riviera International Film Festival celebra la sua decima edizione trasformando la suggestiva Baia del Silenzio in un laboratorio a cielo aperto dove il cinema non è solo intrattenimento, ma un atto di ribellione contro l'indifferenza. La missione di questa kermesse rimane fieramente identitaria: offrire uno spazio di libertà a chi ha il coraggio di esplorare isole remote e borghi dimenticati, premiando la tenacia di registi under 35 e documentaristi capaci di dar voce a cause che tolgono il sonno.

In questo scenario di visioni ribelli, il festival non si limita alla proiezione di opere originali, ma diventa un momento di alta formazione grazie a un programma di masterclass che vede protagonisti alcuni dei nomi più influenti del panorama mondiale. Ad aprire questa serie di incontri d’eccezione, venerdì 8 maggio, sarà Matthew Modine, icona hollywoodiana diretta da giganti quali Stanley Kubrick in Full Metal Jacket, Robert Altman in Streamers e America Oggi, Oliver Stone in Ogni Maledetta Domenica e Christopher Nolan ne Il Cavaliere Oscuro il Ritorno e Oppenheimer. Nella sua lezione intitolata "Senza copione, in tempo reale", l'attore esplorerà la capacità di abitare il personaggio con autenticità immediata.

Il testimone passerà poi a Giovanni Veronesi, sabato 9 maggio presso l’Annunziata. Celebre per aver firmato sceneggiature per Francesco Nuti e Leonardo Pieraccioni e per aver diretto successi come Viola bacia tutti, Il mio West, Che ne sarà di noi, la trilogia di Manuale d’amore, Italians, Genitori & figli e Moschettieri del Re, il regista svelerà i meccanismi complessi che regolano la precisione e il tempismo necessari per far ridere. La sua masterclass "Dirigere la commedia: precisione, tempismo e caos" si soffermerà proprio sull’architettura della risata, dove la tecnica incontra l’istinto.

A chiudere il ciclo sarà domenica 10 maggio Silvio Soldini, autore di opere intense come Pane e tulipani, Brucio nel vento, Agata e la tempesta, Giorni e nuvole, Cosa voglio di più e Il colore nascosto delle cose. Il regista, il cui ultimo film Le assaggiatrici ha recentemente ricevuto ben tredici nomination ai David di Donatello, terrà la lezione "La mano invisibile: guidare le emozioni del pubblico", guidando i partecipanti attraverso quella sensibilità poetica capace di toccare le corde più intime degli spettatori.

From May 5 to 10, 2026, the Riviera International Film Festival celebrates its tenth edition, transforming the picturesque Bay of Silence into an open-air laboratory where cinema is not merely entertainment, but an act of rebellion against indifference. The mission of this event remains fiercely identity-driven: to offer a space of freedom to those who dare to explore remote islands and villages forgotten by civilization, rewarding the tenacity of directors under 35 and documentarians capable of giving voice to causes that keep us awake at night.

In this landscape of rebellious visions, the festival goes beyond screening original works to become a moment of elite training, thanks to a program of masterclasses featuring some of the most influential names in the global scene. Opening this series of exceptional encounters on Friday, May 8, will be Matthew Modine, a Hollywood icon directed by giants such as Stanley Kubrick in Full Metal Jacket, Robert Altman in Streamers and Short Cuts, Oliver Stone in Any Given Sunday, and Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises and Oppenheimer. In his session titled "Without a Script, in Real Time," the actor will explore the ability to inhabit a character with immediate authenticity.

The baton will then pass to Giovanni Veronesi on Saturday, May 9, at the Annunziata. Renowned for writing screenplays for Francesco Nuti and Leonardo Pieraccioni and for directing hits such as Viola bacia tutti, Il mio West, Che ne sarà di noi, the Manuale d’amore trilogy, Italians, Genitori & figli, and Moschettieri del Re, the director will reveal the complex mechanisms governing the precision and timing required to inspire laughter. His masterclass, "Directing Comedy: Precision, Timing, and Chaos," will focus specifically on the "architecture of laughter," where technique meets instinct.

Closing the cycle on Sunday, May 10, will be Silvio Soldini, author of intense works such as Bread and Tulips, Burning in the Wind, Agata and the Storm, Days and Clouds, Come Undone, and Emma. The director, whose latest film The Tasters recently received thirteen David di Donatello nominations, will lead the session "The Invisible Hand: Guiding the Audience's Emotions," taking participants through the poetic sensitivity capable of touching the most intimate chords of the spectators.
