Il palcoscenico internazionale del Festival di Cannes ha tenuto a battesimo la 72ª edizione del Taormina Film Festival, svelando un programma d'eccezione che dal 10 al 14 giugno 2026 trasformerà la perla dello Jonio nella capitale del cinema d'autore. Sotto la direzione artistica di Tiziana Rocca, la storica manifestazione siciliana si prepara a inaugurare una stagione di grandi anteprime, combinando il fascino millenario del Teatro Antico con le visioni più contemporanee della settima arte.
L'eccellenza artistica di quest'anno trova la sua massima espressione nei riconoscimenti e nelle personalità coinvolte. Il prestigioso Premio alla Carriera (Achievement Award) verrà conferito a Helen Mirren, icona globale profondamente legata all'Italia. La celebrazione dell'attrice si intreccerà con un omaggio alla memoria di Anna Magnani: sul grande schermo del Teatro Antico verrà infatti proiettata la versione restaurata di Bellissima di Luchino Visconti, in occasione del 75° anniversario del film. A guidare il festival nel ruolo di madrina sarà Anna Valle, figura di spicco della cultura cinematografica e televisiva italiana, apprezzata per la sua innata eleganza e intensità interpretativa.
La giuria internazionale, chiamata a valutare le opere in concorso, vanta la presidenza della regista Premio Oscar Jane Campion. Accanto a lei siederanno l'attrice Holly Hunter, anche lei premiata dall'Academy, la costumista Miyako Bellizzi, reduce dal successo di Marty Supreme, e Francine Maisler, tra le più influenti casting director di Hollywood e pioniera nella sua categoria agli Oscar 2026 per Sinners. Tra le prime pellicole annunciate spicca l'anteprima assoluta di Bear Country, thriller diretto da Derrick Borte e interpretato da un cast stellare che include Russell Crowe, Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Nina Dobrev e Aaron Paul. Distribuito in Italia da Minerva Pictures di Gianluca Curti, il film promette alta tensione tra intrighi di cartelli e bizzarri acquirenti. Il comparto documentaristico vedrà invece la presentazione fuori concorso di The Struggle for Mother Water di Michael Zelniker, una serie incentrata sulla crisi idrica globale e sulle straordinarie figure femminili in prima linea per la salvaguardia del pianeta.
Le donne saranno al centro anche dell'importante panel "Donne oltre lo sguardo", previsto per l'11 giugno. Un dibattito intimo e potente che vedrà confrontarsi non solo le giurate e la madrina del festival, ma anche la cantante Malika Ayane, l'attrice Clotilde Courau, la regista Francesca Archibugi, la scrittrice Fernanda Torres e la giovane attrice Romana Maggiora Vergano.
L'edizione 2026 segna inoltre un passo fondamentale per il posizionamento internazionale del brand Taormina grazie alla concomitanza con l'Assemblea Generale della FACE (Federazione delle Accademie del Cinema Europee), che riunirà i rappresentanti di quattordici nazioni per discutere di inclusione, sostenibilità ed educazione cinematografica. Sul fronte giovanile, si rinnova la collaborazione con ANEC Sicilia per la giuria del Campus Giovani che assegnerà il Cariddino d’Oro, mentre ARCA Enel debutta al festival introducendo un percorso formativo volto ad assegnare il Premio ARCA al Miglior Film Italiano.
Le istituzioni locali hanno rimarcato il valore non solo artistico, ma anche strategico della kermesse. L'Assessore regionale Elvira Amata ha evidenziato come il festival rappresenti un motore vitale per il turismo d'élite e un'autentica vetrina per la Sicilia moderna. Un concetto ribadito da Bernardo Campo, Commissario Straordinario della Fondazione Taormina Arte Sicilia, il quale ha definito la manifestazione un'operazione di ingegneria culturale a difesa della seconda rassegna più antica d'Italia, nata nel 1955. L'estetica dei protagonisti che calcheranno il red carpet sarà curata da grandi professionisti del settore: Giovanni Ventura per Wella firmerà le acconciature dei prestigiosi ospiti, mentre il make-up artist Orazio Tomarchio, con Truccheria Cherie, curerà il look delle celebrità. I simboli tangibili della vittoria, infine, recheranno la firma inconfondibile del maestro orafo Gerardo Sacco, che realizzerà in esclusiva tutti i premi di questa attesissima edizione.
